My main research interests center around the design, adoption/appropriation and evaluation of emerging ‘away from the desktop’ interactive technologies (currently surface, tangible, mobile and embedded). I’m particularly interested in designing and creating novel technologies with children. I’m also keen to involving these technologies ‘real world’ deployments and research studies.

I’m Co-Investigator on the £1.5m EPSRC funded ‘Taking on the Teenagers’ project which is lead by UCLan ( and involves 4 other leading UK Universities. The project is engaging teenagers in creating ‘cool’ technologies to reduce their own energy use and making long lasting changes in energy behaviour. Most notably, the project has been featured in the Guardian Newspaper (link), and on the BBC Radio 4 Costing the Earth program (listen).

I’m also involved in several smaller projects and knowledge transfer activities. I’m a co-chair of the  British HCI 2014 conference and I review for most of the conferences in the area of HCI, ubicomp and interaction design.
